The Dog that Caught The Car

We have all at one point in our lives chased the "unobtainable", defied the odds and obtained what we so desperately wanted only to not know what we should do next. We chase these desires only to find that they are not as exciting as we once thought. The experience is not what we thought it would be. We in a sense were the dog that Caught The car.

Forethought: The Desire

It's always fascinating to think about the things that would could have rather it be money, fame, a specific lifestyle or even something as simple as your dream guy/girl. The desire that we feel to have that is in forethought and it manifest into something larger than life. This in turn will make the validity of wanting even greater to the point we feel like we need it. So we tell yourself that once the opportunity arises I will chase my desire and I will have what I want.

We are the dog laying in the yard staring ate the street...waiting for an opportunity. No leash. No bounds. Nothing to hold us back. In the faint distance...an engine. In the faint distance...Opportunity approaches. We lift our head in anticipation.

The Thrill of The Chase

It is something about seeing our desire up close and personal. It drives us so mad that we become so emotionally overloaded that we become frozen for a second. Our gaze lock on it and the we shoot off like a rocket. Never giving up an inch. We feel so invested that we could care less about anything else until we have caught our car. Skidding corners and hopping obstacles. We are so determined. Closer and closer we get as our hearts pounds harder and harder.

It is something about the thrill of the chase that is invigorating to us. Chasing what to others may see as childish, boring or unworthy of effort or they may chase along as they may see the same as you do. Could it be that the closer we get to our desire the closer we get to euphoria? How often do we think during the chase "is it really worth it?" Are we more inclined to give up the farther our car gets? Or are we more inclined to push harder and harder?

Eventually the chase ends and we the dog catch our car.

Afterthought: The Final Realization

Through our hearts content we cheer and rejoice in our accomplishment. We the dog began to sniff the car, lick the car, jump from seat to seat. With our head out of the window we bark with joy. How happy we are to have caught the car. As little time passes and our euphoria dies out we are dawned with a final realization. Cars are meant for driving and as we sit in the driver's seat we now know that our legs are to short. Our paws can barely grip the steering wheel. When we honk the horn the sound startles us. Now we ask ourselves "What's the point of a dog having a car?" We Can't drive it therefore we can't enjoy it and if we can't enjoy it then what was the point of chasing it? Now looking around we chased a car into unfamiliar territory, we don't know how to get home and we can't drive...Life is ruff.

Conclusion

Often times in life we tend to chase things we cannot do anything with whether it be money that we can't manage or keep, a lifestyle that we can't afford, a partner we can't please or simply a car we can't drive. We have to look past desire and evaluate if we actually benefit from the chase or is it just a waste of time. I know I have suffered from chasing cars I can't drive but I have learned eventually that some things are just not worth the chase. Moral of this post you may ask. Well dogs shouldn't chase cars of course! instead they should chase bone trucks. At least they will have lots of bones.

I hope you all enjoyed this post I surely did enjoy writing it and looking back on all the times I was the dog chasing the car. As I looked back at all those times I now can see why they were pointless in chasing...like that one girl who looked like a goddess but i could never please...or the popular kids I tried to be friends with only to find that they were just as miserable as I was trying to find a place in the world...or...or... I'll just stop while I'm ahead of my self...BUT you get the point right? I've done it and so have others. Foresight is blurry as all hell and hindsight is 20/20.
